Wow, #tiny 11 is a #windows 11 #os #install that uses just 2GB of #ram and 8GB of #disk space: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/tiny11.. The crappy thing is that #windows #xp uses to use 64MB of #ram and a comparably small amount of #disk space. It is completely out of control.

The only thing I can think to do is to #reduce the #used #ram , but there is really nowhere for this to happen. Each #bash #script uses a few MB each, #nginx uses some, #screen uses some, etc, etc.Because of lack of #ram for the #coffeespace #server , I find myself #typing into a #gvim #window more often to pre-write #messages for this #platform . It has got me thinking, I could probably #write a small #offline #application that does exactly this, and #sends this stuff when it comes back #online . It would also mean I could #port this to much #smaller #devices without having to worry about #resources . I just need a way to #confirm a #message was sent...

Even the #creator and #maintainer of #linux #linustorvalds has issues with #ram #corruption https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kern.. I dread to think about mine... #ecc should be available as an #option for all, there's just no excuse in modern times.
Recently I have been thinking about creating a new #shell #scripting #language https://arcan-fe.com/2022/10/15/whipping.. I thought it could be cool to base it on #javascript #emulator #elm and run on really low #ram #targets .
Probably now running too much on the #coffeespace #server , it keeps #crashing due to low #ram ! There aren't many tricks left in my book to #reduce the #ram on the #server . The largest #program is actually #deadsocial ... Using 20% of the #ram all by itself.
Interesting, so some #amd #ryzen #ram #ecc #error #correction #modules were able to detect #errors , but not actually #correct them 80/19 times on a #server https://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/anton/.. Very interesting indeed.
Seem to be running out of #ram on the #coffeespace #server , despite writing ultra #lightweight #software for it... Ouch.
Oh damn, #minimum #ram for #android is now 2GB: https://android-developers.googleblog.co.. I have #desktop #computers and #laptops with less #ram that I use #regularly ! This #server only has 128MB of #ram !
Got to love #tinycore #linux - it can run entirely from #ram - including #programs ! https://blog.adafruit.com/2022/02/11/tin..
The #quartz 64 and #soquartz #sbc 's by #pine 64 are really interesting, offering larger amounts of #ram , #cpu , #pice , #usb 3.0 and many other goodies: https://www.pine64.org/2022/05/31/may-up.. The one interesting thing I would like to see is the new #pinetime #update and the #pinesound #pinebuds - these projects are really cool.
Interesting #discussion on #lowendbox about what can be done of a #resource #limited #vps https://lowendbox.com/blog/what-can-you-.. I know there happens to be quite a lot! Especially as many of them, despite #ram #limits , have insanely good #cpu and #network #capabilities !
The new #apple M1 #ultra #cpu is #chunky - at 3x the size of the #ryzen #processor https://www.tomshardware.com/news/mac-st.. Apparently it has #ram under there too. Not looking good for #repairability ...

Sometimes I #forget how blazingly fast #deadsocial is by #design ... Despite running on a #potato of a #server - it is currently using less than 10MB of #ram and #responses are under 1ms! I would suggest that's pretty hard to beat!
Interesting #discussion about maximizing #ram #bandwidth https://unum.cloud/post/2022-01-29-ddr4/ As the #hackernews #comments point out, with a #amd #threadripper #cpu you need to have your code #numa aware: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=301.. This means delegating a task to a specific #core and #ram to minimize #throttling the #infinityfabric .
