A lot of cool #updates from #pine 64: https://www.pine64.org/2022/11/15/novemb.. I'm personally looking forward to the #pinebudspro , with an #arm #cortex M4 it could be really powerful for #noisecancellation , #audio #codecs , etc. I am already tempted to #purchase several 0x64 #boards that run #linux on next to nothing!
Interesting #update from #linmob https://linmob.net/weekly-update-4-2022/ More people discussing the $15 #linux #device https://bbenchoff.github.io/pages/LinuxD.. #danct #released a new #arm #kernel that works nicely: https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Pi.. I got my #pinetab #wifi #driver fixed again and #updated it. Some nice #updates all around!
popcorncomputer 's new #pocketpc is a very cool #linuxpda with similar #hardware to #pine 's #pinebook (OG), #pinephone and #pinetab on the #arm A64: https://pocket.popcorncomputer.com/ According to #tuxphones it's quite a nice #device https://tuxphones.com/popcorn-computer-p.. The device itself is supposed to cost between $300-$400 #usd #dollars - a little too #expensive than I'm willing to pay.
Great work on making #linux #binaries #crossplatform ! https://github.com/ptitSeb/box64 It's quite difficult to make #intel #blobs run on #arm #systems for example!
Nice #discussion about the #implementation of #spinlocks in #gcc and #linux https://blog.regehr.org/archives/2173 I would suggest that the 32 #bit #arm #limit of 65k #cores might *actually* come to bite somebody pretty soon. I could see a stripped down version of Linux running on a GPU in the near future for example.

That's significantly powerful!Interesting, #raspberrypi have #released a new #raspberry #pi #zero https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-.. Looks like it will cost about 15 or $15. Apparently it's a Raspberry Pi 3 with less #ram - it's pretty #capable: https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/new-ras.. It is supposed to be a #pin drop-in #replacement for the #original #zero #pi ...
The #pocketpc ( #popcorn #computer ) is interesting, but not for $300-$400 #usd https://www.cnx-software.com/2021/10/01/.. If it was about the $100 mark I would be able to better #justify it. It's based on the #arm #allwinner A64 #cpu - hopefully that means some more #kernel #developers for #pine 's #pinephone and #pinetab !
Very interesting, a #linux #distribution aimed at #arm #chromebooks https://tuxphones.com/cadmium-linux-for-.. Could be worth considering for #pine 's #pinetab #device - that thing desperately needs a better #os !
Looks like #pine got #official #arm #systemready #ir #iot #certification #scl https://developer.arm.com/architectures/.. Looks like this is just for the #rockchip RK3399 - but it's a great start! Very cool.
Nice, it seems like the #kernel is taking #portable #arm #computers quite seriously, even asking for more devices to be supported: https://tuxphones.com/linux-kernel-needs.. It seems clear at this point that #arm and other #lowpower #cpu #architectures will play a large part in the future.
Time to make some #coffee - my mind is so sleepy and I have a lot to get done with the rest of my day... I have #todo lists the length of my #arm !
Have a crazy #idea to turn #pine 's #pinecube into a #pda device: https://www.pine64.org/cube/ Looking at the #specs it sports a small #arm #cpu 800MHz, 128 MB #ram , a #touchscreen #display and #wifi https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/PineCu.. This could very well end up as a very nice #hardware base!
Seems like #arm #china has underwent a #hostile takeover by ex- #ceo #allenwu https://semianalysis.substack.com/p/the-.. He appears to have close ties with #china 's #ccp and should *be a warning to all #western #investors into China* ... At this point Wu has begun to rebuild his own company using #arm 's #ip as #alphatecture - mark my words that #taiwan will now be the next #battleground !
Great #article by #danct 12 about how to #overclock the #pinephone and presumably the #pinetab and all A64 #arm #cpu https://danct12.github.io/PinePhone-CPU-.. Would be good to abstract this and slide a small #heatsink into the #pinetab !
Definitely intend to follow this #hackaday #course on the #pipico https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Duel_Oaa.. Will be very interesting to learn about the #compile process, #interupts , #arm #assembly , #gdb and #pio https://hackaday.io/course/178733-raspbe.. Looking forward to following it.
Very interesting discussion about the possibility of #secureboot on #pine 's #pinephone - and the problems that entails: https://daltondur.st/secure_pinephone_1/ I personally want to see a #bios for #arm devices implemented first, even if a small chip that gives some basic capability. At least this way we can start to move away from per-device images.
