I can attest to #firefox 's #bugs on #android https://blog.nori.moe/firefox-for-androi.. Every time I #rotate the #display it #crashes and opens a #random new #tab from a previously " #securely " closed #session ... It's not even supposed to be possible.
It'll cost about $150 for #amazon 's new #paperwhite #eink #display https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/21/22684.. The only thing I wish is that it is #opensource - but that of course is completely against Amazon's goal of controlling the #software and #hardware stack to prevent #bypass of their #store ...
Very cool idea to #upcycle an old #ereader to be a #display for a #typewriter like #device https://github.com/olup/kobowriter I suspect in the coming year we will see more and more of these #upcycle #hacks whilst the #chipshortage rages...
A #discussion ongoing regarding #pine 's #pinenote #eink #display and how it will #refresh https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?.. There will certainly be some software issues to overcome. Personally I think the best bet is to build a really intelligent display #driver for #linux ... That was you can reuse everything that already exists.
Hmm, I might be about to make another dumb #purchase ... I have finally has some responses regarding #pine 's #pinecube about the #lcd #driver and other stuff. If I can figure out if the #display will support #touch input - we could be looking at a viable base for a #linuxpda #device ! https://coffeespace.org.uk/projects/linu.. I think I will write a follow-up #article later for #coffeespace !
Very good #article and #video on how *not* to #build your own #ar https://hackaday.com/2021/08/19/why-you-.. I would personally like to see a " #vr " setup with a #camera that does the #passthrough to the #display - this would ultimately solve the #optics problem. For AR to 'interact' with the real world anyway, you're going to want a camera to do processing.
Awesome to see a large #eink #display in the works over at #pine ! https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?.. Hopefully this means a e-ink device in the near future based on the new #quartz #platform !
Looks like #apple have their first M1 related #hardware #fault https://www.frontpagetech.com/2021/07/30.. Apparently users are leaving the lids down on their machines overnight and then discovering the next day that the display has cracked. I personally suspect this could be related to #heatcycling the #display rapidly...
The #attiny 85 is a very cool little #chip https://hackaday.com/2021/07/19/an-oled-.. Getting it to read images, drive a #display and display images is very impressive indeed, especially given that it is likely done in about 6kB of #ram or so!
Just purchased that #parts for the #custom #laptop - $200 later! On the plus side the #display can be used as a stand-alone #monitor and the #keyboard was needed anyway. Fingers crossed this works.
I'm in the market for a new #laptop - but I now want a #dailydriver that is #upgradeable , #opensource and #repairable ... I've had a look at what's out there and I'm not that impressed. I essentially want an #sbc in a box with a #battery , #display and #keyboard - ideally with a rigid chassis. I've got no idea what to do though...
This is a great use of an #epaper #display https://hackaday.com/2021/07/06/e-paper-.. Ideally it could do with some #triangulation features such as #gps and #magnetometer - but it's a great start.
Really nice #eink #touchscreen #display created using #recycled parts, including ex #kindle displays: https://hackaday.com/2021/06/21/review-i.. Very nice execution!
