This #eink business appears to be getting real nice, especially with the ability to #sketch like some advanced #paper https://www.bit-101.com/blog/2021/10/ske.. The #wacom #layer appears to be where it's at too, a #technology that #pine 's #pinenote went with too.
Ouch, looks like the #remarkable #eink #tablets are looking to switch to a new #subscription model: https://hackaday.com/2021/09/22/firmware.. This would mean your hardware becomes basically #bricked unless you continue to pay, a lot like #tesla ... Suddenly #pine 's #pinenote looks *even more* attractive as an #opensource #linux #device !
This month's #pine #update has some great #news https://www.pine64.org/2021/09/15/septem.. The #devzone is looking like it will be very interesting, with #bugbounties being #paid by Pine64! The #podcast is coming back! The #pinenote looks awesome and I'm depressed I can't have one. The #pinecube is starting to make #progress - the #pinetime and #pinedio are also coming along nicely. Tonnes of progress!
As somebody who regularly uses their #pine #pinetab - I would suggest that it is very much not a #replacement or #alternative to the #ipad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPe8bDOp.. It's seriously underpowered in a way that isn't even funny, not a single #feature of the device is even #comparable ... It appears to be something that Pine64 may be taking seriously with the #pinenote - but it will be at least another year to see if these changes get migrated back into the PineTab.
A #discussion ongoing regarding #pine 's #pinenote #eink #display and how it will #refresh https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?.. There will certainly be some software issues to overcome. Personally I think the best bet is to build a really intelligent display #driver for #linux ... That was you can reuse everything that already exists.

They have released the #pinenote which looks like an awesome #alternative to the #remarkable - it's also insanely #powerful too. I *really* want one, but most definitely cannot afford it at $400. I'm currently checking out #fitotrack for the #pinetime - an #opensource #fitness #app https://codeberg.org/jannis/FitoTrack Other than that, there is awesome progress on the #pinephone and #pinedio too!
