An interesting #concept for a #browser called #bone https://github.com/Merkoba/Bone I like the #idea - but #simplicity and #npm do *not* go hand in hand. Try getting the #code to build in a year's time.
Ouch, looks like there is an extremely #lowhangingfruit of a #bug that allows for very easy #crashing of the #google #android #chrome #browser https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/iss.. It is completely locking up some #phones as when it crashes it attempts to re-open the problematic #url again!
Fuck me #google #chromium #chrome eats #ram ! 6GB for just 15 or so #tabs in a #web #browser ! Insanity. Meanwhile #firefox is running some 1k tabs and using 1.4GB of #ram - how on earth can #chromium get is so wrong?
#notcurses is turning into a really interesting #curses and #ncurses #aternative https://github.com/dankamongmen/notcurse.. I can definitely see future projects using this instead of a #browser (which is ultra annoying to support).
Currently updating #coffeespace to respect #darkmode #css requests from the #browser - as well as adding a little more #colour consistency. I also want to selectively add #js based on whether it is required or not, especially the #mathml stuff which weighs in on *every* page currently.
Fuck #vodaphone - every time I have to use their shitty service there is some kind of #darkpattern in there somewhere. And due to every service being 'modern', you now cannot even fucking fart without a #phonenumber and #twofactorauth ... Apparently I cannot even call a #freephone number without first topping up my phone. To top up my #phone I have to install their shitty #app - because the #browser fails to work. It's like death by a thousand little fucking cuts.
Ouch, tonnes of #browser #extensions in #chrome and #chromium use shit tonnes of time to process! https://www.debugbear.com/blog/chrome-ex.. I imagine the story is the same in #firefox too. Currently I run #ublockorigin (block #as and #trackers ), #noscript (by default, disable all #js ) , #privacyredirect (avoid using #twitter , #youtube , #reddit , etc) and #waybackmachine (find archives of websites that fail to load).
I'm hearing worse and worse things about the #brave #browser https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/06/07.. Apparently it can now add their own #referralcode to #crypto #transactions to earn money for the #developers ... The warning sign for me was always that #youtubers started promoting the browser in their videos...
Great point from #drewdevault about overriding default #browser behaviour: https://drewdevault.com/2021/06/27/You-c.. You're not going to build a more native experience in #js than the #os can provide, simple as.
The #brave #browser isn't as trustworthy as first believed: http://ebin.city/~werwolf/posts/brave-is.. I never really bought into it either, especially when #youtubers started shilling it with #sponsor spots.
