Well shit, #lapsus are about to drop a #leak for #microsoft 's #bing , #cortana and much more: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/mi.. #victims also include #nvidia , #samsung , #vodaphone and #ubisoft . Apparently this was all through some kind of #communications #channel - I bet they wish they were using #opensource right now.
#samsung #caught #rigging #performance #benchmarks to #sell their #phones https://hackaday.com/2022/03/10/galaxy-u.. Apparently they #disable #cooling #measures whilst running #whitelisted #benchmarks . Problem is, they can't run like this normally as it would lead to the #device #overheating !
Now we see #samsung #flip #phone #fail through #normalusage https://lehtimaeki.medium.com/why-i-will.. I 100% saw this coming. Does nobody question why they lock the #hinge in place in all the #stores ? The first thing I want to do when I see one of these things is test the #capability - and obviously everyone else does too, which causes them to break all the time in the #shop ... #dual #screens with a #thin #bezel would have been fine...
Apparently #ibm and #samsung have a new #transistor - but it is so far unclear exactly how it works: https://newsroom.ibm.com/2021-12-14-IBM-.. A lot of #hype around it though... We'll see if it plays out. Half of the problem is not the #design but the #reliable #manufacturing #process !
Man, imagine #buying a #brandnew #samsung #tv only to have the #display taken over by #ads ! https://twitter.com/samsunguk/status/145.. Madness. You either own the #hardware or not. We want #dumb #tvs - not #smart TVs!
Hah, #ibm is actually old enough as a #company that they made actual #cheese #cutters https://hackaday.com/2021/10/12/ibm-chee.. #samsung is somewhat similar in this regard.

Again, likely as a result of the #global #chipshortage !Awesome, the #wd #budget #nvme #ssd is getting cheaper parts swapped in that silently reduce #writespeeds - probably due to the #global #chipshortage https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/.. Apparently once the #cache fills up the speed of the drive halves!
I hate #smart #tvs - but this is a great win for #samsung who has been able to #disable #stolen TVs in #southafrica #johannesburg https://news.samsung.com/za/samsung-supp.. But to all others out there - this is exactly why we need non-smart TVs...
The sentiment of this idea from #samsung is nice, just not well executed: https://hackaday.com/2021/05/27/samsung-.. I think a better use for an old phone could be alarm #clocks or #notice boards - something that makes better use of the display. It could still do all that other sensor and audio stuff in the background, but make use of the display too.
