Great #article by #drewdevault on why #irc is great and how powerful it can be when used correctly: https://drewdevault.com/2021/11/24/A-phi.. Would be really nice to point people at this when they use it badly!
Oops, I might have accidentally blown off one of the #developers asking for #testers over in the #pine #irc https://pipewire.org/ This actually looks like a super cool project! #linux #audio might finally just work...
Strange, it appears that some of the people behind the #freenode #hostiletakeover and now starting up a new #irc #server named #ergo https://ergo.chat/ The IRC world is pretty small it seems. I personally will stick with #libera for a while. After this I think I might checkout the possibility of building a simple #telnet #server and #client and be done with IRC entirely. That will likely be down the road though!
Nice #discussion about how #irc is designed: https://gist.github.com/rain-1/c4be54e65.. I wasn't previously aware of this!
These #fake #circuitbreakers make you feel sick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TJEzdqt.. #bigclive opens up a fake #breaker ... I'm just watching this again after somebody in #irc has very almost had their entire house burn down, after their breaker failed. Absolutely maddening.
It's impressive how #thunderbird is so slow these days that it even struggles to handle a few thousand #irc #comments - literally taking minutes to open them. It really shouldn't be that tough to make basic software work fast.
This is an incredible #pine #cluster #board #debug exercise: https://ericdraken.com/a64-reset-problem.. The solution turns out to be a #diode #hardware revision. I *really* like the idea of documenting the debug process to this level - what a seriously impressive piece of work. I remember seeing this guy talking in #irc about his problems.
Ouch, seems like #freenode and #redirecting a #libera looking #domain name to their #irc network: https://fedi.absturztau.be/notice/A99J6E..
Ouch, the #irc #freenode server has been completely and utterly wiped now: https://old.reddit.com/r/irc/comments/o0.. They have really gone off the deep end now. Pretty much everyone is over on #libera as it stands.
Seems like the death of #irc 's #freenode is imminent if this graph is anything to go by: https://isfreenodedeadyet.com/ Seems like #libera has picked almost all of the users...
Another victim in the #irc #freenode debacle has been the #python channel: https://nedbatchelder.com/blog/202106/go.. Looks like #libera wins some new community members.
I always see people in #irc talking about #weechat - but never used it: https://christine.website/blog/irc-stuff.. Not sure what to make of it, seems like an interesting tool but needs work.

They nuked some very high profile #irc servers - as others have pointed out the trust is now gone. They refuse to even name the alternative networks named #libera - kind of telling. Things are not looking good over there.Even more #irc communities being attacked by #freenode staff: https://twitter.com/CriadorDeJogos/statu.. I'm surprised more of these projects aren't just starting their own IRC servers in all honesty.

Interesting take by #rachelbythebay on running #irc servers: http://rachelbythebay.com/w/2021/05/26/i.. Apparently you should either run them or use them, not both. I run a game server I sometimes play in and can for sure understand the want to perform prideful stupidity. Maybe when I was younger I would have done this, but for now my moderation process is essentially to allow most things unless it effects other players. I assume this is a good policy for IRC servers too.

I guess this is answering the question for most about whether or not they should migrate! I hear Freenode is losing users at a rate of knots. This is exactly why you don't piss off the hacker community.
