Seems like #additive #metal 3D #printing is getting a lot better: https://mosfet.net/pureform-3d-printing-.. Very impressive #results if it can be replicated. Hopefully they don't cost too much!

Very cool #mechnical 7 #segment #display https://hackaday.com/2022/10/09/flip-seg.. This could very much make for a super nice #clock . Not sure about the #longlife of this though, maybe better if it was made from #metal ?

Really nice #custom #metal #watch #build ! https://hackaday.com/2022/08/18/put-3d-m.. I never knew that #metal 3D #printing #services were now #available to the average person!

There is a point about #recycling here which is interesting: https://hackaday.com/2022/08/18/the-tool.. I would go one further, I would make the tool part of the #target #object itself. A #wooden #spanner that becomes part of the #wooden #table , a #metal #driver that becomes part of the #metal #tap , etc. That way you #reuse the #tool and it's always there if needed.

Looks like another #metal has risen in #price as the #uk #sanctions #nickle #suppliers due to #russia https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/ni.. It'll be interesting to see how far this can go.

This 3D #printed #water #cooled #jetengine is so cool it hurts: https://hackaday.com/2022/05/30/3d-print.. I really would like to #experiment with jet engines at some point... Watching this #project by #integza over several years I can see that #metal is basically a #requirement at this point - but it seems like you could get away with having not much metal at all. #aluminium #cooled and built correctly could really be the way forwards with this.

Enjoyed the #anime #thehelpfulfoxsenkosan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Helpfu.. It was just a feel-good, low #metal #effort , #relaxed #story .

Pretty cool, the #chrome #metal #bullet #effects in the #terminator #movie was actually a #practical #effect - not #cgi https://hackaday.com/2021/11/14/those-bu.. Pretty well executed!

More #supplychain issues will now cause a #magnesium #shortage - a #metal that is used in things like #chassis and even #aluminium creation (to create an #alloy ): https://hackaday.com/2021/11/01/magnesiu.. Bare in mind, large #cabling uses #aluminium - many #electronics #devices use #magnesium - this is really quite a large problem. We need better #decentralization of #supply already!

I never considered #uranium as a #precious #metal before, but it makes sense to hold it given how little there is and how #valuable it is to the #energy #industry https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/most-a.. Makes just as much sense as #coal at this point, perhaps even more so as #countries struggle with the #energy #crisis and have been forced to buy tonnes of #coal at terrible rates.

Interesting - #china is about to test a #thorium #reactor https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-0.. Thorium is a bi-product of #rareearth #metal #mining ... This could be part of am effort to #decentralize away from #imported #uranium - potentially another sign that the #ccp plans to start a #war that could lead to it being #isolated ...

#integza is getting there with the 3D #printed #rocket concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw9VF1V-.. Very impressive! I'm glad to see #metal printing getting so close to the #hacker market!
