Normally #crashing is not a good thing, but in this case we see #nasa purposefully #crashing into an #asteroid to test their ability to change it's #trajectory https://hackaday.com/2022/09/26/watch-na.. This will provide #valuable #data in figuring out how to prevent #collisions with the #earth in the #future . Quite a cool moment!
#random #thought - We should keep a large #asteroid #orbiting the #earth and fling it at anything that comes to close. It makes much more sense to make use of something with a lot of #mass and #energy than to try and put something from the #surface up into #orbit ... The only thing is ensuring that it is #maintainable and #future #safe .
Lol wot: https://arxiv.org/abs/1909.11090 Apparently the " #hidden #planet " in our #solarsystem could be a #primordial #blackhole ! There is a 1:1 representation of the proposed black hole in the paper - it's really not big at all but has several times the #mass of #earth ! *Seriously cool idea!*
Apparently the #earth is now trapping twice as much heat as it did in 2005: https://www.livescience.com/earth-trappi.. Although it could be part of a cycle effect, it does lead to the idea of a potential #extinction level event being just around the corner. Perhaps this is the true answer to the #fermiparadox - every intelligent life form is doomed to be smart enough to exploit local resources, but not yet smart enough to avoid irreversibly destroying their planet.
