I used this just the other day, #dd wasn't working for some reason, so I just used a #pipe , and I was able to #flash a #usb #drive https://eklitzke.org/the-cult-of-dd Seems like #dd is #overrated and not very useful.
Very very interesting, it appears you can make a #harmonic #drive using a #rubber #belt https://hackaday.com/2022/10/31/3d-print.. The result is a #gearbox with very little #backlash at all. A few of these #stacked and you could get an ultra high #torque #motor !
For the #protests #yesterday across the #uk were for insane #fuel #prices , where the people are asking for #tax cuts: https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/u.. Essentially they are asking to be able to #purchase #fuel in order to #drive to #work , to ultimately #stimulate the #economy . The #uk #government needs to figure out how to #reduce the #cost .
I *really* like this #solidstate #memory #drive #idea using #dip #switches that puts 4 #bytes in your pocket: https://hackaday.com/2022/01/23/diy-soli.. For me the #attraction is a #drive that cannot be #corrupted , that can be easily #debugged , etc. I think it needs at least 256 bytes to be useful though for example in #space #applications or as some kind of #foolproof #boatload #rom !
Bloody #ubuntu now #incapable of #mounting an #encrypted #drive with #write #access - how hard can it be to just #maintain a #stable #os ? I have a #workaround for now by #manually mounting the #drive https://askubuntu.com/questions/63594/mo.. Every time I #upgrade #ubuntu it becomes slightly more #broken ...
Very interesting #pam #authentication #security #modification where there is a fake #password to run an additional command: https://github.com/nuvious/pam-duress People are pointing out that it could be useful for forced search scenarios, especially useful if you can #recover from #backup ! I believe that during these times you must also consider the point that your #drive could be #cloned and the #virtual #drive pulled at the right time to prevent anything being written.
Ouch, seems quite 'easy' for a #hacker to gain access to a company #network if they are so inclined with the use of a #stolen #laptop https://dolosgroup.io/blog/2021/7/9/from.. Apparently the most effective defence against this is an #encrypted #drive ... More needs to be done in general to defend against such attacks, but #governments seem to be entirely against #encryption for exactly the reason that it makes these devices harder to #hack !
