Budgie Ball

Preview Image

Unfortunately1 a family member purchased some budgies. To entertain these creatures, they purchased some random toys from Amazon/China.

One the toys was a ‘straw’ ball that contained colourful shredded tissue paper. The budgies particularly enjoyed this toy, but they soon broke it. After a little thinking, I realised that I could quite easily manufacture my own!

Half of the ball

The ball is stuffed with shredded paper - it turns out that the birds did not care for the original colours, but quite liked the white PLA printed ball with white paper. Apparently birds have a sensitivity to ultraviolet and it’s entirely possible that the ball/paper looks somewhat interesting.

The bird cage is placed near a window and apparently the paper contains a fluorescer to make it look whiter that could be an interesting property to the birds.

The OpenSCAD file can be retried here, with the STL available here.

If you are crazy, there is also a larger version here (for a large group).

  1. For those of you that have owned many budgies, you will understand the shear noise, feathers and mess these little birds produce.↩︎
