Looks like people are on a massive anti- #elonmusk movement at the moment, this time looking into #starlink and their #capped #data , which is annoyingly #standard across the #isp industry: https://www.pcmag.com/news/starlink-sets.. It's very likely over the top.

Interesting, it appears that it may be possible to build an #alternative #gps based on #starlink 's #lowearthorbit #leo #satellites https://www.technologyreview.com/2022/10.. It would be really cool if this could be a #secondary #free #service they are able to provide, perhaps #backed by #governments for a #reduced #cost .

#elonmusk is rightfully getting #annoyed with the #us #military and #government after #supplying #ukraine with #starlink #internet and not getting #paid for it: https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/m.. To be fair, I can imagine their #network is now under major #hacking #attacks .

Apparently #china 's #ccp and #russia are both #threatening to #destroy #elonmusk 's #spacex #starlink on grounds of " #nationalsecurity " - despite tonnes of #foreign #satellites #flying over their #countries anyway: https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/c.. This isn't to mention they are both #developing #competitor #platforms ... Weird.

Turns out that the recent #starlink #launch caused 40 #satellites to #deorbit due a #failure to #initialise - something cased by increased #drag as a result of the #geostorm https://www.spacex.com/updates/

Not sure I entirely agree with #thunderfoot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaUCDZ9d.. Although #elonmusk has a track record for crappy over-hyped projects, I suspect #starlink will actually work. The assumption of costs is too high, the governments and companies will help fund the project, the number of supported customers at a *maximum* of 100 Mb/s will be much higher than a solid use of 20 Mb/s by each user and the connection prediction routing algorithm is actually easy to solve, space is predictable

Ouch, #starlink #satelite dishes are shutting down due to #thermal issues https://arstechnica.com/information-tech..
