I #listened to the #oxford #union " #debate " on #meritocracy and the #conclusion I came to is that few of them knew what they were talking about: https://youtube.com/watch?v=AeRHkFw9fYw Firstly, only few of them even knew the #definition - secondly, half of them #debated a different #proposition - thirdly, #sharonchau et al attacked their #opponents #character - the list goes on. Essentially it is a debate of #communism vs #capitalism at its root - not that any of them understood this.
I'm glad the #nobel #prize is #rejecting the idea of #gender and #ethnicity #quotas - instead preferring a #meritocracy https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-.. The #women and #minorities that get the #prestigious #award should not have their #achievement belittled, they won the award on their own #merits - something that would not be entirely true if it was awarded under another circumstance.
