Apparently this "new" #communication #method can be used to #transmit 1.8 #petabits per #second https://www.dtu.dk/english/news/all-news.. I guess the neat trick here is #splitting the #laser #light and creating an #efficient #encoder and #decoder #chip . Interestingly it doesn't mention #distance - and it is unclear to me if they could #transmit in reality using the full #spectrum via #fibre .

The #hindu #diwali #festival of #light is all good and well, but people are now letting off #fireworks *after* #midnight , *for an entire week.* This is not reasonable behaviour. As #wikipedia suggests, there is a non-zero chance of very #serious #dangers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diwali#Iss.. I hope they are using #safe , highly #regulated #fireworks .

Really enjoyed the latest video by #photonicinduction https://youtube.com/watch?v=Cqi-l16gjSI Regarding #led #lights - I believe they have decent potential to be long lasting *and* decent #colour if you invest some effort, especially in something like a #florescent tube light. I think the trick is to run them straight on mains via a full bridge rectifier, and then current limit. Run lots of them in series and parallel and you should end up with quite a robust #light
