#notetoself - this in an excellent #resource for #intel 8080 #cpu #chip #development #history https://baltazarstudios.com/webshare/A-Z.. This would be really useful for the #book I intend to write on the subject.

Pretty #impressive , this #hack makes a #protected #mode for the Z80 #chip https://hackaday.com/2022/10/23/protecte.. Madness!

Wow, #canon #printers now don't even #recognise #genuine #ink #cartridges as #legit after the #chip #shortage has screwed with their #lock " #features " https://twitter.com/naderman/status/1479.. Apparently #canon are telling people how to #bypass the #warnings ... The #hackernews #comments are pretty good too, with one person claiming that #hp #regionlocked their #ink because the #climate is supposed to be different: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=298.. Madness!

Really nice use of the #pipico #chip to do some #audio #enhancement for a #usb #microphone https://hackaday.com/2021/12/25/mico-is-..

And the #chip #shortage is now really affecting up-and-coming #hardware #devices - now in the #retro #games #consoles #industry https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/11/p..

Apparently some #bmw #vehicles will be #manufactured without #touchscreens because of the #chip #shortage https://www.theverge.com/2021/11/5/22765.. I say: "good"! #displays in #cars are nothing more than a #distraction - especially as half of them come pre-loaded with some old #android ( #security #risk ) with crap #apps like #facebook and #twitter ...

Another #car #manufacturer in the #automotive #industry is shutting down due to the #chip #shortage - this time #opal #vauxhal in #germany https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-t.. An #economic #collapse is imminent... How can the largest industries in these economies pause for more than a year and not result in lost jobs and a massive decline in their respective #economies ?

Big ouch, the #chip #shortage is getting much worse: https://hackaday.com/2021/09/29/ic-short.. I would suggest that this person could verify the #design without the need for the #power #controller #chip - an #oldschool #resistor #ladder from a #dc source *will* give you the required #voltages at the worst #energy #efficiency !

Very good that #intel is now actively getting their #chip #factory #manufacturing #project underway: https://www.reuters.com/technology/intel.. It's very clear that having these things done in #china or #taiwan is going to be a *massive* #security #threat in the near future. It also adds to #shipping and ultimately #globalwarming issues to having it made so far away!

Sounds like the #silicon #chip #shortage is still going strong, with #toyota looking to slash global #production by 40% https://www.bbc.com/news/business-582667.. I suspect their internal #stockpiles are now depleted... And this is why many Countries need their *own* #manufacturing and not to rely on #china - who are now purposely restricting #foreign #export for in-house use.

Apparently #purism #librem 5 is somewhat #censoring #criticism https://old.reddit.com/r/Librem5/comment.. They are having #manufacturing issues based on the #chip #shortage ... Problem is, even #pine with the #pinephone have been able to ship at a slightly increased price. So why is a #phone that was sold for $2k having more issues sourcing parts than a phone selling for $200? Something is slightly off here...

The #attiny 85 is a very cool little #chip https://hackaday.com/2021/07/19/an-oled-.. Getting it to read images, drive a #display and display images is very impressive indeed, especially given that it is likely done in about 6kB of #ram or so!

Seems like #apple building a better M2 #cpu will be a significant undertaking, just due to how good that #chip already is: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/.. I genuinely impressed with how good it is for a first attempt, well done to them - seriously!

#ibm is looking to #sue #globalfoundries - a #chip #manufacturer for failing to meeting targets: https://www.nextplatform.com/2021/06/10/.. I really suspect they will not be the first either, especially if IBM are successful.

The #microcontroller now running the #pipico is now available for purchase to #hackers https://hackaday.com/2021/06/01/new-part.. Great timing, especially given that there is so little chips available right now.
Shit, I paid quite a bit more for a ATtiny85 not so long ago! https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspber.. The #chip behind the #pipico is insanely more powerful... It may be useful for another project though, let's see!

I agree with #aardvark (again), this time on #chip shortages: https://aardvark.co.nz/daily/2021/0602.s.. I was hearing over a month ago of a 64 week lead time... I agree that during these times its important to do more with less. I feel like modern processors are actually plenty fast enough. For example, on a friend's #windows laptop, #chrome needs 2GB to open four simple tabs - what the actual fuck! Simply insanity.
