This is an #exceptional #thread on the current #eu #energy #crisis and explains why we can expect #rolling #blackouts this #winter with a 99% certainty (a number I can agree with): https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/15679.. The problem is that this #energy #crisis could last at least 5 years...
My #ups was one thing I #purchased to hedge against #blackouts , but it will not nearly be enough for #winter . It can maybe get through a few hours for a few small #devices , it will not #sustain a whole #house for long at all. I will likely be looking to install a larger #ups / #eps when I am able, perhaps several #kilowatts of #power . For #heat it will need to be something that #burns , #electricity is simply too #valuable for this purpose.

#eevblog is #complaining about his #eps #emergency #power #supply not immediately switching #power #source https://youtube.com/watch?v=5JT8M8v_zNg What he actually wants is a #ups , an #uninterruptible #power #supply instead, which is what I #purchased recently. I use mine for #computers that cannot survive any amount of #power #outage . In theory he could run his #eps into a #ups , and then run the #fridge into that.

I now have a #ups #ordered - apparently the #uk will have more #blackouts , possibly even #rolling #blackouts during #winter . As my #work relies on a #computer , it makes sense to have an #uninterruptible #power #supply . Hopefully I can figure out how to #charge it on #cheap rate #electricity .
