The use of a #pcb to create a 7 #segment #display is pretty cool: https://hackaday.com/2023/03/03/pcb-make.. Maybe could look to do this for the #robots !

#robots have a far way to go, in this case a #darpa #robot was easily #defeated by #us #marines#hiding under a #cardboard #box https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/3424..

Looks like #robotics is starting to make a massive #impact on #agricultural #farming , in ways I hadn't even thought would be possible: https://youtube.com/watch?v=sV0cR_Nhac0 Really great stuff. As other people have mentioned, the killer application is a #forest with #swarms of smaller #robots growing in more #natural #environments , requiring zero to no #pesticides, etc.

Nice #youtube #video by #jamesbruton on #walking #bipedal #robots https://youtube.com/watch?v=WJKhpGFg4uU Whislt #walking #robots are "easy", #humanoid #robots that move *fast* are most certainly hard. As he mentioned, uneven surfaces, inertia, etc, all add to difficulties.

Nice #youtube #video from #veritasium on #jumping #robots , and #storing #potential #energy in #spring #structures https://youtube.com/watch?v=daaDuC1kbds

Very cool #antweight #robots that #battle one another: https://hackaday.com/2022/08/22/small-co.. Apparently they are #limited to 150 #grams , as well as other #restrictions , but is still pretty cool.

Apparently the #moon is going to see tonnes of new #lunar #rovers https://blog.jatan.space/p/lunar-rovers-.. I would love to see some #hacker #community #robots too! Bare in mind the recent #mars #rover #helicopter was based on #opensource #code ! I think a community #project could offer some *very* cool options!

Watched the first #episode of #almosthuman - it's not too bad, a little #us #racially charged, but not too much so far. The #premise is really cool, the #cgi is a little lazy, but it's got legs. As long as they don't start getting too #political it could be really cool #tv #series .
Scrap that, they made it #political with the #black #robots having a problem with the #idea of being " #owned ". It's really hard to #watch #american #tv - everything needs for them needs to be split on #racial lines, it's #toxic . It's such a different #lens to view the world in that it breaks the #illusion of #fantasy for me.

#amazon 's new #astro #home #robot is cool, if a little #underwhelming https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-5872.. As #aardvark point out, this could be paving the way for more #competent #robots in the future: https://aardvark.co.nz/daily/2021/0930.s.. I really suspect that #robot #dogs will be the next step in getting #robotics into the #home - a #personal robot for #entertainment ... I think the target price will be $1k-$5k...

I always try to remember when working with #robots that they could always hurt me: https://blog.nikitas.link/have-you-ever-.. The #humanoid robots are a significant finger removal and electrocution risk.

#aluminium extrusions are something I've wanted to take a look at for a while, especially for #humanoid limbs: https://hackaday.com/2021/05/25/getting-.. There could be some exciting future opportunities for low-cost, low-weight #robots for the #robocup project.
