There have been a few scares about #shelling in #ukraine against the #chernobyl #nuclear #reactor , but the lack of #electricity to the #cooling #system is by far the largest #risk so far: https://www.axios.com/ukraine-chernobyl-.. The #iaea have #claimed that there is no immediate #issue here, but they have just 48 hours of #diesel #generators and all of the #monitoring has been non-working during this time.
Interesting, it looks like it could kick off with #chernobyl https://twitter.com/OAlexanderDK/status/.. It's #wet #soil and they are now seeing increasing #radiation in that area, 30x #nominal levels... It's entirely possible that the #enclosing #structure of the #reactor has been #damaged with the fighting in the area. There are claims it is just #dust - in any case, not the sort of dust you want to breath in.
I can see the attraction of visiting #chernobyl in #ukraine https://www.calvertjournal.com/features/.. It's a shame that the environment is not left untouched by many who travel there, but the #morbid fascination with the area I can completely understand.
