#google will now #ban #vpn #apps in the #play #store if they #block #ads https://mezha.media/en/2022/08/31/google.. Just a reminder that you don't own your #android #phone , it is there just to serve #ads to you.

Just setup a #vpn using #openvpn using a nice #script https://github.com/angristan/openvpn-ins.. Very easy to setup and runs well. Not the fastest in the world, but does work.

Wow, #vpn #demand in #russia has apparently #surged to 1500% ! https://lowendbox.com/blog/russian-deman.. I'm half tempted to run a #proxy on my #server for #bbc #news for them. I wish I was in a position to offer more.

Interesting, #kape , formerly #crossrider , a former #malware distributor, now owns tonnes of #vpn #services and #review #websites https://restoreprivacy.com/kape-technolo.. This includes some of the most popular services in the world, including #expressvpn , #pia #privateinternetaccess, #cyberghost , etc.. Something *extremely* strange going on here.

When I get back to the #uk I'll be looking to build my own #cluster https://www.pine64.org/2021/09/01/cluste.. This would ultimately save on having to #buy #cloud #computation and could be used to host a series of other tasks, including #storage - #backup - #vpn and even third parties. It could even be setup to replace the need for a #powerful #desktop #machine , simply spinning up computation as required.

As expected, #netflix is now cracking down on #vpn use to bypass #geographic #limitations https://torrentfreak.com/netflix-intensi.. I actually wrote an #article on #coffeespace a while back on how to effectively measure a #vpn being used: https://coffeespace.org.uk/projects/dete.. I wrote a #proofofconcept too and it worked for the most part, you could *definitely* build up statistical data on users with this idea.

This #article is pretty weak in evidence and claims, but the idea is there: http://techrights.org/2021/08/05/lousy-m.. I believe that in the current #political climate, pretty much any large #organization is doomed to fail. #mozilla #firefox have got management with specific ideas about how they should move forwards. For example, they implemented a #vpn and have been hiring ex- #facebook #data #scientists ... I'm not entirely sure they are going in the right direction.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sold on using a #vpn for 'security' - I think they are a major #security #risk ... You have the #logs , the #dns redirection problem, the multiple #isp issue and many other things. We still need a better solution to this problem.
