Very cool #talk by #gregkroah about how the #linux #kernel is #developed and #tested https://youtube.com/watch?v=L2SED6sewRw

Interesting #xorg #xserver #userspace #hack left in the #linux #kernel because of #popular #broken #code https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-DRM-.. It means that all #programs that start with the letter 'X' are run completely differently from other #software . Potentially could have been used for #malware or something!

A *really* bad #linux #kernel #wifi #exploit #patch inbound, it has 5 #cve 's against it: https://lwn.net/Articles/911062/ No idea what it is, but it must be pretty bad for us to be getting pre- #warnings about it like this.

Interesting, the #linux #kernel #scheduler could be getting an overhaul which tends to favour #cpu #cores that were used recently, rather than spin up #unused #cores https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nest-l.. In theory this should reduce switching #lag . Could be very cool!

#oasis is a really interesting #project to #statically #link the entire #linux #kernel https://github.com/oasislinux/oasis Apparently speed wise the #performance is insane. The #hackernews #comments are worth a #read on this one: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=324.. Lots of great #arguments either way.

Interesting, it appears that there is some #nginx #performance #improvement by doing #tls and #ssl in the #kernel https://www.nginx.com/blog/improving-ngi.. Pretty cool.

Any incredibly #complex and #intricate #stack -based #integer #overflow #exploit for the #linux #kernel https://lwn.net/ml/oss-security/1b176761.. These people are nothing short of #genius - I honestly would not know where to begin with this.

The new #kernel #feature #iouring is filled with #security #issues it seems: https://www.graplsecurity.com/post/iou-r.. More work is needed before this gets #primetime .

Man, #linux really comes out on top in this #google 's #projectzero #report https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.com/2.. #safari does not come out well for #browsers , neither does #osx or #windows in general...
Someone else spotted how well #linux comes out on #google 's #projectzero #report https://www.zdnet.com/article/google-pro.. The #linux #kernel is *by far* the best for #bug #fixes and #security #patches ! Amazing!

Interesting #project to #build a #kernel and #programs that #survive #reboot https://github.com/dzavalishin/phantomus.. One of the great questions raised is how to handle #bugged #software ... Apparently #software #reset is in the #os by design. I thought about this some time ago, and in theory all state can be derived from #observations and #periodically #querying certain systems. We already do such things with #cache for example.

#pine 's #pindio #stack as written about by #jf is pretty exciting! https://codingfield.com/blog/2021-12/fir.. Great to hear that it could make the basis for a new #pinetime ! It could even be possible it runs some for of *very small* #linux / #unix #kernel ! It has #lora , #gps , #wifi , #bluetooth , #memory , #heartrate #sensor , #compass , #usb - this little thing is simple insanely well equipped!

Interesting #update from #linmob https://linmob.net/weekly-update-4-2022/ More people discussing the $15 #linux #device https://bbenchoff.github.io/pages/LinuxD.. #danct #released a new #arm #kernel that works nicely: https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Pi.. I got my #pinetab #wifi #driver fixed again and #updated it. Some nice #updates all around!

Awesome, a new #linux #patch that #builds the #linux #kernel much #faster https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n..

Well duh, #google were always asking for trouble #supporting an old #linux #kernel for #android #development ! They should never had wondered so far from #mainline https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n.. Apparently this point might be mute though if they eventually switch to #fuschia #os ... A non- #google #kernel still sounds like the best option for me...

Nice, it seems like the #kernel is taking #portable #arm #computers quite seriously, even asking for more devices to be supported: https://tuxphones.com/linux-kernel-needs.. It seems clear at this point that #arm and other #lowpower #cpu #architectures will play a large part in the future.

Currently trying to get the #pine #pinetab up and running with a #usb #wifi #dongle ... #ubuntu isn't playing ball so far. I get nothing but issues with this device, I don't know why. I will try with my custom version of #archlinux soon.
The #pinetab finally has #wifi once again! Thanks to some #pine #community members, my random WiFi #dongle is now supported in the #arch #linux #kernel I use: https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Pi.. This means that I can now use the #tablet as a #wireless device again! Looking forward to using this device in the local #library once the #lockdown becomes less strict!
